It could be said that Colchester Road Baptist Church owes its existence, humanly speaking, to the Sunday School. The work amongst children began over 4 years before the church was formed, and had been an integral part of the life of the church ever since. Large numbers of children made it necessary to extend the buildings long before the new church was built! The Crèche caters for babies and small children, the Primary Sunday School for those up to 7, Junior Sunday School for those up to 11 (formerly Junior Covenanters) and what was in the early years the Bible Class for young people, became a Covenanter Group.
Over the years the work of the Sunday School has been supported by mid-week
activities for children, all part of the pattern of presenting the claims
of Christ to the young:-
| Christian Endeavour | Boys and Girls Brigade |
| Covenanters | Six O'Clock special and League of Young Worshippers |
The teenagers of the church have had links with the Suffolk Baptist Union Youth Work, going to house parties at Overstrand, and rallies and treasure hunts. THere have been holidays at Southwold, led by Roy Hessiom, and at Greenbelt and Spring Harvest. Through the years many Covenanters have been to National Covenanter Camps and successfully taken part in Area Covenanter Competitions. Strong links with Christian Youth Ministries introduce the present younger generation to Christians from other churches, and give them an opportunity to proclaim their faith to their peers.
